History of Janagama

Rich Historical and Cultural Legacy of Telangana

Janagama is a town and the district headquarters of Janagama District in the Indian state of Telangana. It is also the headquarters of Janagama Mandal and Janagama Revenue Division. It is located about 85 kilometres (53 miles) from the state capital Hyderabad and is situated on National Highway 163.

Janagama is located on the eastern Deccan Plateau and has an average elevation of 382 metres (1,253 ft) above sea level.

The name Janagama is believed to have evolved from "Jain Gaon", meaning "Village of Jains." Jainism is one of the ancient religions of India.

Kolanupaka (also known as Kulpak), located about 20 kilometres (12 miles) from Janagama, is a famous pilgrimage centre for the Jain community and is known for its rich historical and cultural heritage.
